Every year Organic Headshots gives away several hours of event photo coverage, divided into quarters. This year, Visionshare already has dibs on a few hours of coverage for an event they have in October: a group that places donated eye tissue for transplant recipients is definitely a non-profit that restores vision is definitely after a photographer’s heart!
Past recipients of Organic Headshots’ “pro bono” event coverage include The Childrens Place, the Chicago Volunteer Expo, and the Ozzie Guillen Foundation.
If your non-profit has an event between October 1st, 2016 and December 31st, 2016 and you’d like to apply for some free event coverage by Organic Headshots, contact Michelle!

I recently took headshots for marketing materials for a hospice pharmacy service provider: they needed portraits of their team members that could be cropped in different directions for their marketing materials.
It’s common that my clients need flexibility in their headshots since they can get used so many different places. Each marketing piece a photo is placed into (a bio page on your website, LinkedIn, an annual report, etc.) will have different dimensions. Sometimes it’s a square, sometimes it’s a vertical rectangle, sometimes a horizontal rectangle.
So this is what we did for these fine folks… we took a wider shot like this:
So it can be cropped like this:
Or like this:
And now they’ve got some great shots of their people for all their marketing materials. (Cue fanfare and triumphant music.)

Last week I spent a couple days at a law firm downtown photographing an entire staff of attorneys for a special piece their marketing department wants to put together. They told me they wanted photos of their attorneys with the same backdrop and in a variety of poses, so that the photos can later be joined into 3/4 length shots of groups of people. That way they can put together marketing materials that show a lineup of small groups of attorneys from different practice groups, and then be able to move them around as they see fit.
So what I did was bring in a large, gray backdrop and lit it evenly so that the photos would be easier to join later without having to deal with any strange shadowing on the backdrop. Then I placed the camera on a tripod and photographed everyone head to toe, standing on the same spot. Since the camera didn’t move and each person stood in the same spot, I was able to keep heights consistent so that when their photos are melded together, each person’s proper height is represented.
The firm’s own graphics department will be putting together the final pieces, but I wanted to mock together a few of them just to be sure it worked without making for too much editing on their part. And eureka! I think it turned out well.

I love watching Shark Tank (OMG #sharktanknation) because I LOVE watching fellow entrepreneurs pitch their dreams and what makes them get up every morning and work their buns off to create something they believe in. Those are my people.
But several weeks ago I was watching an episode I missed when it first aired a month or two before then, while I was on vacation and relaxing in the hotel after a long day of sightseeing… and lo and behold, I recognized one of the entrepreneurs as literally my people.
I took his headshot last year! He was with his business partners pitching their brainchild, Dude Wipes, and Mark Cuban invested!
So I just wanted to say congrats to Jeff and his partners, and best wishes with Dude Products! I feel honored to have photographed such greatness. 🙂

I found myself back in Nichols Hall in Evanston this week- this time photographing a husband and wife piano duo who have been tickling the ivories together for about a quarter of a century! Ralph and Claire Neiweem meet with me for some updated press photos on Tuesday, and brought with them samples of past photos they’ve had taken through the years. They were an absolute pleasure to photograph, and wonderful pianists. Every time Claire fixed her hair and I moved lights around Ralph would provide us some background music. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I’ve got the best job in the world.
